Welcome to Dance With Melissa, your warm and inspiring corner of the internet where belly dance beginners can flourish, find confidence, and have fun. Whether you’ve never danced before or you’ve always been curious about the art of belly dance, our mission is to guide you through the graceful yet energizing world of body isolations and beginner-friendly moves — all taught in the uplifting Melissa Style.
Our Story
Dance With Melissa was born from a simple dream: to make belly dance accessible to everyone, no matter their background, age, or dance experience.
Melissa, our founder and lead instructor, began her own dance journey as a curious beginner. Like many of her students today, she once wondered if she had the rhythm, flexibility, or “right” body type to dance. What she discovered was liberating — belly dance is for everyone.
Over the years, Melissa refined her unique teaching method, known as the Melissa Style, which focuses on breaking down complex movements into easy-to-follow steps. Instead of overwhelming you with advanced choreography right away, she teaches you to master the building blocks of belly dance — hip lifts, shimmies, chest circles, and undulations — through a method that blends clear instructions, positive energy, and real-time demonstrations.
From her very first small local class to launching a complete online platform, Melissa’s goal has remained the same: help beginners fall in love with belly dance.
Our Mission
We believe belly dance isn’t just a performance art — it’s a celebration of self-expression, a way to build confidence, improve posture, and connect with your body in a joyful way. Our mission is to:
- Make belly dance accessible through clear, bite-sized beginner tutorials.
- Encourage body positivity — every shape and size is welcome here.
- Create a supportive community for learners across the globe.
- Teach with kindness and patience, so even the shyest beginner can shine.
What Makes Melissa Style Different
If you’ve ever tried to learn belly dance from a random video online, you might have noticed that instructions can be rushed, unclear, or aimed at advanced dancers. The Melissa Style changes that. Here’s how:
- Beginner-Centric Approach
Every tutorial is created with absolute beginners in mind. Melissa slows down each move, explaining the “how” and the “why” so you understand not only what to do, but how it should feel. - Body Isolation Mastery
Instead of jumping into full routines right away, you’ll first learn how to isolate your hips, chest, shoulders, and torso. This foundational skill makes every dance move easier and more graceful. - Encouraging Environment
Melissa’s teaching style is warm and non-intimidating, making it easy to laugh at mistakes and keep going without fear of judgment. - Real-Life Application
Our tutorials are designed so you can practice at home, in your own time, without special costumes or equipment.
